The Met Police have offered a £20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of escpaed lag and suspected spy Daniel Abed Khalife.
He escaped from HMP Wandsworth on Wednesday morning (September 6) after slipping out of the jail kitchen and fixing himself to the underside of a food delivery van, which is believed to be the same vehicle caught in CCTV images during the getaway.
Police said Khalife was declared missing at 7.50am on Wednesday and they were notified at 8.15am
As the search for him reaches well into its second day, the Met have announced that they'll part with cash for solid information on the runaway's whereabouts.
Dominic Murphy, Metropolitan Police counterterrorism commander, announced the move, after informing the public of a "very significant development", namely the suspect apparently being spotted.
A Met statement added: "The Met is offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information that leads to the arrest of Daniel Abed Khalife, as detectives investigate a sighting of him near Wandsworth Roundabout.
"More than 150 of the Met’s counter terrorism officers and staff, with support from colleagues across the Met and in other forces, have been working at pace around the clock, making extensive enquiries to try and find Khalife.
"Detectives have received information from a member of the public who said they saw a man fitting Khalife’s description walking away from a Bidfood van that had stopped near the south entrance to the Wandsworth Roundabout, at the top of Trinity Road, shortly after his escape.
"The man was then seen walking towards Wandsworth town centre.
"This is one of several key lines of enquiry that officers are pursuing.
"A reward of up to £20,000 is now being offered for information which leads directly to the arrest of Khalife."
It comes after the Met also released images of the sort of clothes he was wearing; white top and red chequered trousers, alongside heavy duty dark green shoes.
Saying that the force has received 100 calls from the public about Khalife, Murphy added: "We continue to urge the public to contact us straight away if they think they have seen Khalife or have information on his whereabouts."
Sky's people and politics correspondent Nick Martin said the reward money might be a very strategic play from the police.
"I suspect that the reward is more for someone who might be a bit closer to Daniel than a member of the public," he said.
"The presence of a reward in cases like this… is a way of saying there might be somebody close to him who was helping him, for which a £20,000 reward just might tip the balance of allegiance.
"A £20,000 reward at this stage of the search suggests to me more of a subtle message [to] somebody who might be helping him than to a general message to the public to say, 'hey, you give us a hand'."
