A man told a court that Elon Musk is controlling his mind through a chip implanted into his brain.

Rick Hodgkins, from Margate, Kent, told the court that the chip was controlling his mind. Claiming that it was this control that sent him on a crime spree.

The 44-year-old ransacked five shops – including Morrisons, Savers, Iceland and Aldi. Over the two-day spree, he smashed bottles in one, downing bottles of wine in another, and stuffing bottles down his pants.

Hodgkins refused to accept responsibility for the crimes and instead blamed Musk for his actions. However, he later pleaded guilty at Margate Magistrates Court to five counts of theft.

Hodgkins, who has previous convictions for stealing, was sentenced to 168 days in prison. However, he was released immediately due to time already served on remand.

Prosecutor Terry Knox said: “I was informed that the basis of the defence was that, at the age of four, he had a chip of some sort inserted into him and was being controlled by Elon Musk to commit these offences”.

The court heard Hodgkins went to Morrisons in College Walk, Margate, and smashed two bottles of alcohol on the floor. He immediately walked to Iceland and stole four cans of beer.

Solicitor, Gemma Adams, explained that Hodgkins was homeless at the time of his offending and drinking heavily. Chair magistrate David Graeme said: “We have taken into account your guilty plea, albeit on the day of the trial.

“For the five charges, there will be 28 days imprisonment for each of those offences. So that’s 140 days. For the previous single theft from a shop offence there will be another 28 days imprisonment, to run consecutively.

Hodgkin was ordered to pay prosecution costs of £650 as well as £16.97 in compensation to two of the shops from which he stole.
