Russia: Footage allegedly shows crash site of jet carrying Prigozhin

Rumours Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin has cheated death have erupted after data indicated he may have flown on a different plane to the one that crashed.

A business jet en route from Moscow to St. Petersburg crashed on Wednesday, killing 10. According to reports, Wagner Group boss Prigozhin was listed as a passenger and is now dead.

But a number of Russian Telegram channels have speculated the mercenary leader may have been on a different plane to the one that crashed and could still be alive.

The other Embraer 600 jet with the registration number RA-02748 departed from St Petersburg earlier today and flew towards Moscow, data shows.

But the plane’s flight records are partly inaccessible via FlightRadar24, an aircraft tracking website.

One expert has said that it would not be surprising if fresh videos of the 62-year-old billionaire start popping up again.

Keir Giles, Senior Consulting Fellow of the Russia and Eurasia Programme, Chatham House, told The Mirror US: “There is one huge caveat to the early reporting. It’s been announced that a passenger by the name of Yevgeniy Prigozhin was on board.

“But it is also known that multiple individuals have changed their name to Yevgeniy Prigozhin, as part of his efforts to obfuscate his travels.

“So until we know for certain that it’s the right Prigozhin, let’s not be surprised if he pops up shortly in a new video from Africa.

“Everybody who was surprised Prigozhin survived his attempt to challenge the authority of the state in Russia with an armed mutiny, and said his days were numbered, will now be saying they told us so. (Including me.)”

Russia’s civilian aviation regulator, Rosaviatsia, said Prigozhin was on the passenger list of the plane that plunged into the ground in Tver region more than 100 kilometers (60 miles) north of Moscow.

But it was not immediately clear if he had boarded the flight.

Russia’s state news agency Tass cited emergency officials as saying that the plane carried three pilots and seven passengers. The authorities said they were investigating the crash.

Oleksandr, a Ukrainian military surgeon, told Daily Express US: “Prigozhin wanted to make another coup in the country.

“The second version is to initiate your own death and hide. Maybe the Russians killed him?”

Prigozhin, whose private military force Wagner fought alongside Russia’s regular army in Ukraine, mounted a short-lived armed mutiny against Russia’s military leadership in late June.
