A four-mile stretch of southbound Interstate 25 through Fort Collins will be closed to traffic starting 7 p.m. Friday for construction on the north I-25 express lane project.

The full closure of southbound I-25 from Mulberry Street to Harmony Road will last 16 hours, from 7 p.m. Friday to 11 a.m. Saturday, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Construction crews will install drainage pipes, overhead sign bridges and electrical and tolling equipment as well as work on concrete finishing, the department announced.

Southbound traffic will detour from exit 269A, head east on Mulberry Street and south on Colo. 257 to Harmony Road. After turning right on Harmony Road, continue west for the southbound I-25 ramp.

There will be no access to southbound I-25 from Prospect Road during the closure.

Once completed, the project will add an I-25 express lane in both directions, replace bridges and add inside and outside road shoulders.
