It might seem far away in this cold weather, but it could be time to think about planning a summer holiday. With July and August the most popular times for Brits to jet off, when’s the best time to book a summer holiday?

Yasmin Pekel, director of Blue Cruise, has shared her top tips for booking a summer holiday and when she thinks the best and cheapest time to book.

Yasmin said: “Next summer might seem like a long way away, but I typically recommend starting to think about your June, July or August holiday now, and booking in early January.

“In January, holiday sales are normally in full spring, meaning that discounts are easily accessible. Many travel providers, including airlines and hotels, also offer early booking discounts.”

After Christmas, many airlines and hotel brands offer deals for holidaymakers so January could be a great time to score a bargain break.

Yasmin added: “By booking early, you’ll have a better chance of securing your desired accommodation and flights.

“As summer approaches, popular destinations and accommodations may fill up quickly, leading to inflated prices. This is particularly true of sought-after resorts and trending destinations.”

Hotels in popular destinations could sell out, particularly if there’s a special event or festival. This could be a sporting event, a concert or an annual celebration.

Yasmin said: “Airlines normally release their schedules and open bookings for the upcoming season well in advance.

“By booking early, you’ll likely be able to access a wider range of flight options including lower fares and better seat fares.”

Flight prices for popular routes tend to get more expensive the closer it gets to the date of travel, so it’s usually best to book early.

Yasmin also recommends flying on a Sunday or a Friday to access some of the best prices. These days are traditionally less popular with holidaymakers.

While booking early might help travellers secure the best prices, holidaymakers that are flexible on destination and dates could snap up a late deal.
