A travel blogger is warning tourists to be careful when travelling on transport in Italy.
TikToker Alaya (@LaTuristaFilipina) has warned that you could be caught out in Italy if you don’t validate your ticket on public transport.
It can be easy to honestly forget to validate tickets when travelling on transport in a foreign city. Every country has a different transport system so if you’re going to use it, it is wise to swot up about how it works before you leave home.
But if you don’t validate your tickets, you could be whacked with a hefty fine as high as £153.
“Always validate your train and bus tickets in Italy! I’ve seen so many clueless tourists who had to pay a lot because they didn’t know about ticket validation,” she captioned the TikTok video.

She goes on to explain how it actually works and what you need to do. She said: “If you’re taking the regional trains and buses (buses especially in Rome) make sure to ‘validate’ your train/ bus tickets.”
“Once you have your tickets, always look for the yellow validation machines before boarding your train. Just insert your ticket in the slot until you here (sic) a stamping sound. That’s it.”
When you stamp your ticket, a little code appears at the top of it so this is what the inspectors look at when they get on.
She mentioned a bus trip she took and saw more than 10 people fined so, don’t think you can cheat the law in Italy. Buying a ticket that costs just a few Euros is far better than a fine of hundreds of Euros.
