A Conservative MP has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of rape and possession of controlled substances.

The politician was detained by police on Wednesday, according to reports.

He was later released on conditional bail, pending further enquiries.

The police were unable to say if the controlled substances were drugs, as tests are being carried out.

It is the latest in a string of arrests of sitting MPs.

A spokesperson for a UK police force said: “We can confirm a man was arrested yesterday morning (25 October) on suspicion of rape and possession of controlled substances.

“He has been released on conditional police bail pending further enquiries.”

The Conservative Party declined to comment on the arrest.
