Experts say it could mark the start of warmer weather, with clear skies and sunshine on their way for most of the country.

Brian Gaze, of The Weather Outlook, said: “Forecast models show a possibly lengthy period of warm and mostly dry weather developing in early September.”

It comes as millions of Brits were planning to head to the beach on Monday on what could be the best day of a disappointing August Bank Holiday.

They hope to dry out in the predicted 23C sunshine after a nationwide washout on Saturday and Sunday.

Forecaster John Hammond, of weathertrending, said: “Into early September, the consensus is that we’ll see a period of warmer weather.”

Weather maps show areas like London, East Anglia and the Midlands could be hotter next month than tourist hotspot Barcelona. Wales and parts of Scotland may remain a little cooler, but should still have some sunny spells.

National weather agency the Met Office has predicted good conditions for the first half of September. Blue skies and sunshine are likely in the south and east of the UK, while northern and western areas could see more unsettled weather.

A forecaster said: “From September 1, temperatures are likely to increase slightly in sunnier spells. And from September 10 to 24, temperatures are more likely to trend above the seasonal average.”

Bookies Ladbrokes are offering 2/1 odds on next month being the hottest on record in the UK. Our current warmest temperature recorded in September is 35.6C in Bawtry, Hesley Hall, Nottinghamshire.
