The Met Office have issued a new yellow weather warning for snow and ice as temperatures plummet to -10C in some parts of the UK.

Forecasters say the latest alert covers much of Scotland and is in place from 5pm today until 12pm on Monday, December 4.

There are now yellow weather warnings in place for large spans of the UK, with police have declared a “major incident” in Cumbria after heavy snowfalls.

They say people should “only travel where necessary”, especially in the South Lakes and Millom area after motorists were left stranded in the snow.

Superintendent Andy Wilkinson said: “We are working at pace, to help clear roads so those currently affected can get moving.”
