A 14-year-old cat from Cambridgeshire has broken the Guinness World Record for the loudest purr.<\/p>\n

Bella, from Huntingdon, achieved a purr which measured 54.6 decibels \u2013 which is equivalent to the volume of a boiling kettle. Nicole Spink, Bella\u2019s proud owner, said: "I couldn\u2019t be more thrilled that Bella has broken the world record.<\/p>\n

"She has been our family\u2019s companion for many years \u2013 we love her to bits and are so proud of her achievement."<\/p>\n

Dave Wilson, the official Guinness World Records adjudicator who oversaw Bella\u2019s record-breaking attempt, said: \u201cIt\u2019s always an exciting day when there is the potential for a new world record so we waited in anticipation to see whether Bella would be able to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Mr Wilson and an acoustic engineer prepared the room in Bella\u2019s home to block out external noises and set up recording devices before Bella settled down on her favourite cushion and began to purr.<\/p>\n

Bella needed to purr louder than 50 decibels to achieve the record and Mr Wilson said \u201cthe results were immediately obvious".<\/p>\n

Ms Spink said: "We\u2019ve always known Bella had a really loud purr \u2013 we even have to turn up the volume to hear the TV over her purring \u2013 and that\u2019s always after mealtimes.<\/p>\n

"So, when we saw that the record for the World\u2019s Loudest Purr was up for grabs, we knew we had to put Bella forward, and we\u2019re so pleased we did."<\/p>\n

Speaking about Bella\u2019s new Guinness World Record certificate, Ms Spink said: \u201cIt\u2019s going to have a really prominent place in the house. "We\u2019re going to have to choose which child\u2019s photos to take down first."<\/p>\n

Record-breaking cats are not the only interesting feline at the moment, with one danger-defying cat found hanging around a UK zoo. The Daily Star reported its bold appearance, and there are worries it could become "a snack" for caged predators.<\/p>\n
