Brits looking for bargain holidays need not cast their eyes too far as one of the best value city breaks in the world can be found in Europe. You can bag a flights for less than \u00a330 each way \u2013 and the beer costs \u00a31.50 a pint too. <\/p>\n

Timi\u0219oara in Romania was found to be the most affordable city break in the Bounce City Break Cost Index for 2023. The travel experts analysed data on 75 good value destinations on factors such as hotel costs, the price of a beer, and one-way transport rates to find the best value hotspot. <\/p>\n

Not only did the study show that a beer could be bought in Timi\u0219oara for just \u00a31.56 but a hotel room would cost you around \u00a382 a night on average, while a meal at a restaurant is priced at just \u00a35 and a bottle of wine at \u00a35.06. Local transport was also extremely cheap with one-way tickets from just 69p.<\/p>\n

You may never have heard of the town, but it\u2019s actually a very charming and beautiful part of Western Romania that plays host to heaps of festivals. In fact the city is packed full of culture, hosting over 30 festivals throughout the year, from the Central European Film Festival to Vest Fest. It's easy to see why the city was voted Europe\u2019s capital of culture in 2021.<\/p>\n

The next festival to be hosted in Timi\u0219oara is the Simultan Festival on September 30 \u2013 a festal of video art and music. Plus, beginning on September 27 is the Timi\u0219oara Fashion Week!<\/p>\n

Meanwhile they city's gorgeous parks, multicoloured baroque buildings and patterned mosaic roofs are all well worth a visit, as well as the student town filled with museums for history buffs. There\u2019s the Timi\u0219oara Art Museum, Banat Village Museum \u2013 a model village based on 19th Century peasant houses \u2013 and the Memorial Museum of the 1989 Revolution which is all about the Ceau\u0219escu dictatorship. So there\u2019s lots to do on top of sipping pints when you\u2019re over there.<\/p>\n

Getting there doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg either. Over on Skyscanner we found flights to Timi\u0219oara from the UK from as little as \u00a326. While the study showed that the average cost of a hotel stay in the Romanian city was \u00a382 you can actually find much cheaper accommodation if you want to save as much as possible. <\/p>\n

As for hotels, we found Moss\u2019s Cave \u2013 a one bedroom apartment \u2013 from just \u00a321 a night on Booking.com, and it sleeps two people working out at just \u00a310.50pp a night! If you\u2019d prefer a hotel to an apartment then you can opt for the Hotel Le Baron. It costs just \u00a328 for a double room with a balcony which, while basic, gets the job done for cheap<\/p>\n

Runners up in the Bounce Cost Index included Buenos Aires in Argentine where a beer costs \u00a31.57 and a public transport ticket costs from just 12p. Baku, in Azerbaijan, was the third best value destination with \u00a37 meals and beer for \u00a31.15. However, it didn\u2019t pip the Romanian city to the top because a night\u2019s stay can cost from \u00a3128 a night. Yogyakarta, in Indonesia, also made the best value list with meals costing just \u00a31, beer \u00a32.56 and a hotel room from \u00a353 a night. However, getting a flight there is more expensive as flights start from \u00a31,047.<\/p>\n
