{"id":118488,"date":"2023-08-26T22:53:01","date_gmt":"2023-08-26T22:53:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gendermyn.com\/?p=118488"},"modified":"2023-08-26T22:53:01","modified_gmt":"2023-08-26T22:53:01","slug":"downed-plane-carrying-wagner-chief-prigozhin-was-hit-by-missile-says-expert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gendermyn.com\/world-news\/downed-plane-carrying-wagner-chief-prigozhin-was-hit-by-missile-says-expert\/","title":{"rendered":"Downed plane carrying Wagner chief Prigozhin was &#8216;hit by missile&#8217;, says expert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The plane that crashed and killed Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin and several others was &quot;hit by a missile&quot;, according to a military aviation expert.<\/p>\n<p>Russian authorities announced the mercenary leader was among 10 passengers that died when a plane crashed in Russia&apos;s Tver region yesterday (Wednesday, August 23).<\/p>\n<p>Social media accounts linked to the Wagner group claimed the plane was shot down by Russian air defences, but one of the world&apos;s leading aviation security experts, former French military pilot Xavier Tytelman, believes the plane was most likely hit by a missile.<\/p>\n<p><b>READ MORE: Virgin Media price cut on movies and sport bundle as customers get \u00a3150 off bill<\/b><\/p>\n<p>ABC in Australia reported that he has studied video of the incident and judging from the way the right wing collapses and the form of the smoke as the plane was falling, he believes it was most likely it was hit by a missile rather than a bomb exploding on the plane, or being shot out of the sky. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article30776712.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/0_RUSSIA-UKRAINE-CONFLICT-WAGNER.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>But UK defence sources have said that the latter is &quot;most likely&quot; what happened.<\/p>\n<p>BBC Security Correspondent Frank Gardner said on X (formerly Twitter): &quot;UK defence sources tell BBC: Prigozhin\u2019s plane most likely brought down by Russia\u2019s FSB domestic intel agency. Likely to strengthen position of Prigozhin\u2019s enemies: Shoigu and Gerasimov.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) is Putin&apos;s principal security agency and the successor to the feared KGB.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article30776715.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/0_FILES-RUSSIA-UKRAINE-CONFLICT-WAGNER.jpg\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<figure data-mod=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article30774500.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s458\/1_ufo_main.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p> UFO road trip mapped out for alien hunters \u2013 but one stop comes with a warning<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s2-prod.mirror.co.uk\/@trinitymirrordigital\/chameleon-branding\/publications\/dailystar\/img\/logo-schema-dailystar.png\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Prigozhin had been highly critical of Sergei Shoigu, Russia&apos;s Minister of Defence, over the handling of the war in Ukraine.
