The chilling final words of a tourist who died after having her arm and leg ripped off in a savage shark attack have been revealed.

The unnamed Austrian woman, 68, died in an ambulance from “shock" after the beast set upon her at Sahl Hasheesh, a popular bay on the Red Sea coast of Egypt, close to the resort town of Hurghada.

A large crowd watched the drama but no-one was seen entering the water to help the woman, who had been in the country for a month with her Egyptian partner and was due to return home today (July 3).

According to the Daily Mail, just before being attacked the woman from Tyrol told her partner: "I'll go back in for a moment."

Afterwards, she was taken to the private Nile Hospital in Hurghada, an Egyptian health official said, adding that she was barely alive when she arrived.

A local report quoted by Russian news agency RIA Novosti added: "The woman died in the ambulance from painful shock."

Officials at the Red Sea Governorate told reporters that the area of the attack and Hurghada would be closed to all sea activity including fishing and diving.

According to Tiroler Tageszeitung, the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in contact with relatives of the woman.

Video shows witnesses on a nearby jetty record the woman's survival attempt.

A group of Russian tourists are heard saying: "Where are the rescuers?

"F***, she's covered in blood. Holy s***.

"Where's the rescue team? 'For f****'s sake.

"Life guards? Where are the life guards? She's going to f***ing die!"

“The shark grabbed her and twisted her around.”
