A woman had no idea she was pregnant until she went into labour.

Melissa started to feel pain after a night out and the 36-year-old said: “I was living a normal life. We went to Sicily on holiday, went to Wimbledon, went on the Tube.

“I had no idea. I was having periods. I didn’t have any morning sickness or a bump. One day I started having excruciating pain. I thought it was food poisoning, so I went to hospital.

“They examined me and said: ‘You’re in labour!’ And they thought I was probably full-term.

“At first, there was denial. It didn’t seem possible. I was in absolute shock.

“It was what they call a cryptic pregnancy where the baby sits towards the back.”

Melissa’s partner Brian, 52, rushed to the hospital and she told him the news.

He said: “When I realised she was in the maternity ward, I thought, ‘Oh my God’. All sorts of things were going through my mind.

“When Melissa told me what was happening, I was in shock. Her mum was there – it was the first time we’d actually met.”

Despite the shock, the couple from Bolton, Lancashire, were thrilled when they welcomed a 7lb baby boy.

Melissa said: “As soon as he came into the world, there was more love than I’ve ever known. It was incredible.”
