A woman who allegedly posed as a FedEx worker to steal hundreds of dollars in packages from a Pittsburg neighbourhood has been held without bond.
Laura Woester, 50, was arrested on Monday on charges of theft by unlawful taking and has since been denied bail.
Woester is accused of taking two packages from a home along Beam Way, Mount Washington on November 4, according to Tribe Live.
Residents of the area told Channel 11 that they caught Woester on surveillance footage with her face mask pulled down and sporting a black and purple FedEx uniform.
They claimed that although she seemingly looked the part of a delivery driver, there was something "off" about her as they watched her scoping out homes with a black Kia SUV trailing behind her.
In one incident she knew she was caught on camera, the thief noticed she was being recorded and returned later in a camouflage jacket to steal the goods.
The homeowner told police the items were worth $220.
Neighbours hope that sharing their story it can prevent others from falling victim to what US media has dubbed a 'porch pirate.'
Resident Keith Bates said: They think it’s easy money. How do they know what’s in that package? It could be somebody’s heart medicine or something.
“It’s a bad thing to do… She must have no heart or soul.”
Another resident named Hector Marte quipped: "Yeah, maybe you should get a job. That's my message to her."
Police say the 50-year-old is known to law enforcement due to previous run-ins.
FedEx has also confirmed that Woester is not an employee of their company in a statement to Channel 11.
A spokesperson said: “At this time, we have not found any record of this individual working for or providing service for FedEx.
