A woman who allegedly stabbed her ex-colonel husband to death described him as a "pain in the a***" and said she "should have stabbed him more," a court has heard.

Penelope Jackson, 66, is on trial for murdering David, 78, in the kitchen of their Somerset bungalow on February 13 this year.

Bristol Crown Court heard that Penelope threatened to cut David's penis off in an argument three months before he died.

When emergency services arrived to try and save the victim's life, Penelope told them she "should have stabbed him more", according to bodycam footage played in court today.

The defendant also told 999 handlers: "I thought I'd stabbed his heart but he hasn't one."

David Jackson was pronounced dead in the kitchen of the couple's home in Berrow, near Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset.

Penelope admits committing manslaughter against the retired lieutenant colonel but denies the charge of murder.

She has argued her husband was a controlling man who was physically violent.

Jackson said she went to bed on the night of her husband's death with a knife under her pillow for protection.

David was Penelope's fourth husband and she was his third wife.

Ms Taylor said David told her Jackson had threatened to "do a Bobbitt on him" if he ever left her.

This was an apparent reference to a US case in which a wife cut off her husband's penis.

Police also found a confession at the scene.

Penelope had written on a pad: "To whom it may concern, I have taken so much abuse over the years – look at my records.

"But he was a good Daddy. However, the mask slipped tonight. That was unforgiveable.

"I accept my punishment, may he rot in hell."

The trial continues.
