A Westminster man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 76 near Roggen on Monday, according to the Weld County Coroner’s Office.

In a news release Thursday, the office identified Nicholas Edward Patterson, 33, as the driver pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at around 9:45 a.m. Monday, the release stated. Patterson was traveling eastbound in a sedan on I-76 when he struck the rear of another vehicle “at highway speeds.” Patterson’s sedan rolled across the median and into the interstate’s westbound lanes, according to the release.

Patterson was ejected from the sedan and died at the scene. Colorado State Patrol continue to investigate the crash, and the cause of death awaits lab and autopsy results.
