“Because they have failed to make the requested and greatly needed reforms we will be today terminating our relationship with the World Health Organisation and redirecting those funds to other worldwide and deserving urgent global public health needs.”

He once again accused Beijing of covering up the true extent of the outbreak when it first hit Wuhan.
Trump insisted: “China’s cover up of the Wuhan virus allowed the disease to spread all over the world, instigating a global pandemic that has cost more than 100,000 American lives, and over a million lives worldwide.
“Chinese officials ignored their reporting obligations to the World Health Organisation and pressured the World Health Organisation to mislead the world.”

On that day, Trump introduced restrictions on flights from China.
However, the New York Times reports that 40,000 people entered the US on direct flights from China after these measures were introduced.
There have been accusations that screenings of these travellers were inadequate.
Last year, the US was the WHO’s largest contributor giving $893million (£723.5million).
At the time of writing, the US has had 1.78 million confirmed coronavirus cases.
