A popular DJ has sadly died just two weeks after receiving a cancer diagnosis.

Phil Cheung, better known as DJ Chill, died before doctors could determine what form of cancer he was facing.

The 46-year-old from County Armagh, Northern Ireland, has left behind a "devastated" community of friends and family, not just in his hometown but all over the world, reports Belfast Live.

His close friend Jackie Coade was at his side for his entire cancer journey and has spoken about his incredible legacy.

She said: "He was such a lovely person who was always thinking of other people – he did a lot of charity work and would have been involved in a lot of events through the Marketplace Theatre in Armagh, he was the DJ who always gave his time and would have never asked for anything in return."

Phil was big on the DJ circuit and travelled to Ibiza and Liverpool for work. Famous names such as Seb Fontaine have been taking a moment to pay their respects.

As well as being a highly respected DJ and figure in the music industry, Phil also worked for a company in Benburb doing accounts where he "never missed a day" and was fiercely dedicated to all he did.

Jackie continued: "He was amazing, absolutely amazing and we were so incredibly proud of him. As his friends, we knew how brilliant he was but when you read the comments people have made and who has made them shows how many people he touched.

"He had two weeks and four days from diagnosis to death, he didn't even have time to get his head around it at all. It's just so so tragic.

"There is a really important health message in all of this, please if your body feels different or if you notice something wrong… please go get checked because Phil was always thinking of other people and didn't want to take anything away from someone else who is really unwell.

"We can't believe that we have had to organise a funeral for him, can't comprehend it at all as he was only 46-years-old and he was so young to only have two weeks and four days.

"Phil passed away very peacefully surrounded by love and with friends who told him how much we loved him, and we made a promise that we would be there from the very beginning of this and he would never be on his own and he wasn't."

Phil's friends organised a fundraiser after his death to cover funeral costs as the GoFundMe page states that he has "no family left behind".

They were able to reach their target after just one hour of the fundraising link being live. They intend to use the money to give him the send-off he truly deserved.

Jackie added: "We know there is messaging going out across Northern Ireland about A&E or GPs being unable to see people but just keep pushing it and pushing it because there really is a lesson to be learnt here that you shouldn't ignore your body and your health is just as important."
