RCMP say a Surrey high school was locked down Friday morning after an assault that left a staff member with serious injuries.
Police say L.A. Matheson Secondary was locked down after an assault with a weapon just before 8:30 a.m. A staff member was badly hurt and is in stable condition.
Following a sweep by police, the lockdown was lifted and students were released. Classes at L.A. Matheson have been cancelled for the rest of the day, RCMP said.
RCMP say a suspect was seen leaving the school grounds in a grey Kia sedan. Police do not have a description of the suspect and are asking anyone who may have seen the vehicle or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage to contact them.
