At least six people have died after their throats were slit by kite strings slit during a deadly festival.
Three of those killed during the Uttarayan festival in Gujarat, India were children, local police forces confirmed yesterday (January 16).
A further 176 people also sustained injuries from cuts and falls while flying the kites.

According to TribuneIndia, the incidents occurred over the weekend after people flocked to terraces and rooftops in large numbers to watch the festivities.
Some of the kites' sharp strings became entangled around the necks of the victims, slitting their throats and leaving them to bleed to death, say officials from Bortalav.
One two-year-old victim was riding with her father on a scooter in Bhavnagar city when the kite strings caught her neck.
She died on Sunday after receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
An official from Aji Dam police station added that seven-year-old Rishabh Verma was riding with his parents on a scooter when his neck was slit by in Rajkot.

In another incident, a three-year-old named Kismat was walking home with her mother in Visnagar town on Saturday when a thread slit her neck.
The child was rushed to a hospital but declared dead upon arrival.
Three men also lost their lives in similar incidents in Vadodara, Kutch and Gandhinagar districts.

Swamiji Yadav, 35, died after his neck was slit by a thread while he was riding a scooter on a bridge.
Narendra Vaghela, 20, was killed in Gandhidham city of Kutch district, and Ashwin Gadhvi in Kalol town of Gandhinagar, they said.
Emergency services stated 130 people sustained cuts and 46 others were injured after falling from a height while flying kites across Saturday and Sunday.
