A twisted rapist who laughed in the face of petrified women told his third victim he "may as well" rape her to make it a "hat-trick".

Craig Gladwin was sentenced to life after being found guilty of three rapes, which included two stranglings and wrapping a belt around one woman's neck.

The sick 32-year-old boasted to his third and final victim: "I may as well rape you. I'm off to prison anyway so I may as well make it a hat-trick."

He will spend at least 11 years and 3 months behind bars before he is considered for parole, HullLive reported.

Gladwin was under investigation for rape at the time of the third and committed it in the full knowledge he would soon be locked up.

He admitted the three violent assaults which took place in June 2018, September 2018 and February last year.

His first victim begged him to stop, but he tied his belt around her and held her down before assaulting her.

She said: "Please don't do this" and "Please stop" but he continued to tighten the belt and slap the woman's face, Hull Crown Court heard.

With his second victim, Gladwin strangled her till she lost consciousness in a violent rampage.

Prosecutor Mark Kellet said: "He put his hands around her throat and started strangling her."

And when she regained consciousness, Gladwin said: "You're not leaving this house alive."

Neighbours called the police and she mouthed the word "Help" through a window, leading to his investigation and capture.

But that wasn't before he raped a third victim twice.

Gladwin told her: "Well, to be honest with you, I may as well rape you. I'm off to prison anyway so I may as well make it a hat-trick."

He had a "wicked laugh" and gloated: "I'm scaring you now, aren't I? I'm scaring you."

His terrified victim asked: "What do you want from me?"

Gladwin replied: "Sex, I just want sex from you."

The women said they now suffer severe anxiety and "numbness" resulting from the assaults.

Judge Richard Woolfall imposed the strict penalty due to the "manipulation" Gladwin displayed toward his victims.

He said: "The incidents were terrifying, violent and/or prolonged. This can only be described as a campaign, albeit single incidents of sexual offending.

"I remain very worried about the risk that you present.

"The psychological impact of these offences on each of your victims is severe and is ongoing and will remain so.

"Power control is what excites you. The risk of you raping [again] is very high.

"You are a serious danger to the public."

Charges involving a fourth woman had been dropped.

Because of his guilty verdict, the women didn't themselves have to give evidence to the court.

But they did attend the trial in the public gallery and bravely heard the lawyers recount the sick incidents from which they are still recovering.

Gladwin must register for life as a sex offender.
