A paedophile who raped three young girls made one of them drink weed killer after beating her up in a horrifying attack.

John Kelk, 68, subjected his victims to "utterly horrific ordeals", with one of them being a mere seven-years-old when he first started the abuse.

Kelk, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, left the girls traumatised after he physically abused them and dragged one of them by the hair and forced her to swallow the chemical-based liquid.

He has been slapped with a 30-year jail sentence after one of his victims bravely came forward and reported what had happened to her as a child. Another one also alerted South Yorkshire Police to his crimes.

Last week, he appeared at Sheffield Crown Court and was found guilty by a jury of 22 charges including rape and sexual assault.

Kelk was also made the subject of an extended licence period of one year, reports Yorkshire Live.

DC Nicola Milner of South Yorkshire Police said: "This was a particularly horrendous case and I am extremely pleased to know that Kelk is finally behind bars where he belongs after putting each of these victims through utterly horrific ordeals.

"Kelk's abuse began for one of the victims when she was just seven years old and continued into her teens. The others were also just young teenagers when he committed these despicable acts.

"I am full of total admiration and respect for the victims, who have conducted themselves with remarkable courage and dignity throughout this investigation.

"While nothing can make up for what has happened to them, I hope that this significant sentence allows them to begin moving forward with the rest of their lives."
