Civilians in Ukraine have been gunned down in the street and left with their “brains coming out", reveals a Russian solider.
The revelation comes from a series of intercepted phone calls between Russian troops and their mothers in the early stages of the war in Ukraine.
One man, named just as Leonid to protect his family in Russia, explained how Russian troops would gun down civilians in the street.

He said they took no prisoners and instead would shoot people after interrogation.
"There was a prisoner. It was an 18-year-old guy,” he said.
“First, he was shot in his leg. Then his ears were cut off. After that, he admitted everything, and they killed him.
"We don't imprison them. I mean, we kill them all."
Over 2000 calls were intercepted and obtained by the Associated Press, many of which allude to alleged war crimes in the town of Bucha in 2022.
In the calls, mothers would often be disbelieving of the actions undertaken by the Russian army, with it clear they were trying to come to terms with the reality of the treatment of civilians there.
There is of course no evidence of what the men have done, beyond what they say.

Leonid’s mother initially seems unable to believe that Russian troops would be killing civilians.
The conversation, from March 2022, goes accordingly.
Leonid said: "Civilians are lying around right on the street with their brains coming out."
To which his mother asked: "Oh God, you mean the locals?"
"Are they the ones you guys shot or the ones … "
He explained that it was, "the ones killed by our army."
The revelation clearly disturbs the mother who asks: "Lyonya, they might just be peaceful people."
He explains in return: "Mom, there was a battle. And a guy would just pop up, you know? Maybe he would pull out a grenade launcher … Or we had a case, a young guy was stopped, they took his cellphone.
"He had all this information about us in his Telegram messages – where to bomb, how many we were, how many tanks we have. And that's it."
The soldier explained that, in this scenario, the teenager was killed where he stood.
"He was shot right there on the spot," he said. "He was 17 years old. And that's it, right there."
In a second tale of events, he said: "There was a prisoner. It was an 18-year-old guy. First, he was shot in his leg. Then his ears were cut off. After that, he admitted everything, and they killed him.
"We don't imprison them. I mean, we kill them all."
