A pub landlord who buried their dead cat has been left aghast after a local came to the pub only to hand over the cat which they thought they had buried.
In a Facebook post which has since been deleted, The Plough Inn located in the Oxfordshire village of Long Whittenham said it had buried a cat earlier on Thursday (September 29).
The post read: "So this evening someone came to the pub with a beautiful black and white cat that had been hit by a car, they thought it was our Biff. So did we… We buried him near our river frontage with the utmost respect and gave him a loving send off."

However, there was a twist in the tale, with the post adding that "Biff has just turned up at the pub alive and well".
It turned out the publicans had accidentally buried a different cat that had died after being hit by a car but which looked identical to their own cat Biff.
The pub will now have the unenviable task of informing the owner of the dead cat that they have unwittingly buried their feline friend.
The post continued: "If anyone knows anyone in the village that is missing a black and white cat (identical to Biff) please, please get in touch asap. So sorry for and distress caused, we are just as blindsided."
Some locals seemed to see the funny side however, with one writing: "Oh my god, Biff is a cat with 9 lives."

It is sadly not a first for mistaken identity cat burials, as in 2015 a woman thought she had buried the family cat when it suddenly appeared in the garden.
"After a beautiful burial service and words of remembrance from yours truly", she said.
"We walked back in the house to begin our post-Kitty life. Out of habit I looked at he back window and guess who was staring back at me?
"Oh, and BTW I dug up the carcass and took it to our vet and it didn't have a chip in it. Because it is a rabbit. DO NOT tell the world about it."
