The daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge has a royal name that not many know about.
For the young Princess Charlotte's full title is actually Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.
And when her parents eventually take the throne, which has a high likelihood, she will then become Princess Royal – a title traditionally given to the eldest daughter of a monarch.
According to The Mirror, it was first introduced to mimic the French version of Madame Royale in the 1600s.
The current Princess Royal is Princess Anne – the Queen's daughter, who has held the title since 1987.
Royal expert and author of Prince Harry: The Inside Story, Duncan Larcombe said: The title of Princess Royal is traditionally bestowed on the eldest daughter of the monarch.
“It is a title that remains for life, so Princess Charlotte will have to wait at least until the death of the current Princess Royal.”
However, when the young girl is at Thomas' School in Battersea, she is not known by either of those two names.
She is addressed in the school register as Charlotte Cambridge, just like her older brother is known as George Cambridge – and obviously, when old enough, Louis will go by Louis Cambridge.

For Kate had some help from her children when choosing which photos to release from her iconic 40th birthday photoshoot, claims the photographer.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis were all involved in looking over the images and even selected one that was released on social media.
The Cambridge children’s involvement was revealed by famed photographer Paolo Roversi, who took the portraits of Kate in London's Kew Gardens in November.
Roversi shared with Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera that her family chose the close-up photo of the Duchess of Cambridge in a white one-shoulder dress.
He told the publication that this image showed “where a carefree girl returns”.
