Prince Harry has opened up about why he was forced to walk away from his royal duties in a candid phone call with prank callers, it has been claimed.

During the call, in which the Duke of Sussex thought he was speaking to climate change activist Greta Thunberg , he reportedly discussed how difficult he and wife Meghan Markle found the decision.

Harry was allegedly the victim of two Russian pranksters, Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov , who called him while he was in Canada on New Year's Eve and on January 22.

He supposedly said: "I can assure you, marrying a Prince or Princess is not all it's made out to be.

"But sometimes the right decision isn't always the easy one.

"And this decision certainly wasn't the easy one but it was the right decision for our family, the right decision to be able to protect my son.

"And I think there's a hell of a lot of people around the world that can identify and respect us for putting our family first."

In the call, which the prankster duo posted on social media, the prince also discussed Donald Trump , the Irish Mirror Online reports.

He reportedly referred to the US President as having "blood on his hands."

Harry also spoke about his family when discussing his use of private planes.

The Duke and Duchess were heavily criticised last year for choosing to fly privately, which created far more carbon emissions per person than a commercial flight.

It came as they both discussed the impact of climate change .

On one occasion, Harry actually used the mode of transport to travel to Sicily to give a speech about the climate at a Google summit.

In the prank phone call, Harry said: "Unfortunately there are very few alternatives.

"We have to fly on commercial planes all over the world. Nowhere near as much as most people who do it for a night or weekends.

"Certainly for my family, to protect my family, from these people, as you can well understand.

"I have to put protections and safety of my family first and these people are never-ending."

The hoaxers' previous victims include music legend Elton John and US Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.
