Prince Harry's new job title at a swanky tech startup in California has been mocked in Japan for translating as 'penis'.

The Duke of Sussex landed his first non-royal or military role last month as a 'Chief Impact Officer' at San Francisco-based mental health start-up BetterUp.

His position may come with a sizable paycheque but that has not stopped Japanese speakers laughing at its acronym of 'CHIMPO'.

As though resembling a primate was not amusing enough, the term is hilariously used as slang for penis in Japan.

According to the Japanese news website SoraNews24, social media users in the country have had one or two things to say about the job title.

Someone wrote: "Imagine if he came to Japan and introduced himself as a 'chimpo' to officials? I'd love to see their faces!"

Another said: "It doesn't matter what age you are, the word 'chimpo' always raises a smile."

"I read the #PrinceHarry is now a 'chimpo' (chief impact officer). My Japanese friends are having a good giggle about this since chimpo describes a certain part if the male anatomy in Japanese. Oops. Perhaps he might want to ditch that title.." a third commented on Twitter.

Prince Harry who is heading back to America after a week in the UK for the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral is understood to have a say in 'strategic' decisions as Better Up's CHIMPO but will not manage anyone.

The prince told the Wall Street Journal at the time: "I intend to help create impact in people's lives. Proactive coaching provides endless possibilities for personal development, increased awareness, and an all-around better life.

"This is about acknowledging that it isn't so much what is wrong with us, but more about what has happened to us over the course of life.

"Often because of societal barriers, financial difficulty, or stigma, too many people aren't able to focus on their mental health until they're forced to. I want us to move away from the idea that you have to feel broken before reaching out for help."

Instead of a salary industry insiders suggest he is likely to have been given equity in the company, which is valued at up to £1.25billion, the Daily Mail reports.

The job is another source of income for him and his wife Meghan Markle who have signed lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify under their Archewell banner.

Former Suits actor Meghan, who is currently pregnant with the couple's second child, has reportedly invested in a firm making 'wellness lattes'.
