A police officer has been left seriously injured after crashing during a high speed pursuit on the motorway overnight.
His patrol car collided with a Seat Ibiza and then crashed into a motorway bridge just before 11.30pm on Friday night on the M62 near Goole, closing the road for at least 12 hours.
A male officer, from West Yorkshire Police, was cut from his car and taken to hospital suffering from 'serious leg injuries'.
The force said he remains in hospital in a stable condition, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Two of the four people in the Seat Ibiza managed to make their own way out of the car. The other two had to be cut out of the vehicle. All four have been arrested and remain in custody the force said.
Motorists faced delays as a response to the crash which closed the motorway both directions between Junction 34 and 35.
The incident has been referred to the police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
