A mum with "royal links" has since gone missing after giving birth in the back of a car that was left burning on a motorway.

Police have been searching for Constance Marten, 35, and Mark Gordon, a convicted rapist, ever since the pair abandoned their car on the M56 just a few miles away from Bolton.

The 35-year-old and his baby are not believed to have been checked out by medical professionals since her disappearance two weeks ago, with her estranged father appealing to her to come forward "as soon as possible".

First responders have since revealed they found a placenta in an abandoned, burning vehicle on January 5.

Sources close to the investigation have said emergency service staff attending the scene of the abandoned car spotted signs of childbirth in the back seat.

Many of their belongings are believed to have been destroyed in the blaze, with items left behind as the pair abandoned the vehicle and fled.

Police enquiries have suggested that the pair then travelled hundreds of miles on foot from Liverpool to Harwich, with the two last spotted at East Ham station.

A heartfelt appeal from Napier Marten, a man with connections to the Royal Family, appealed to his estranged daughter to seek police protection.

Marten, a page at the late Queen's coronation, said his daughter needed to "find a way to turn yourself and your wee one in to the police as soon as possible, so you and he or she can be protected".

He added: "I would like you to understand that the family will do all that is needed for your wellbeing. And I also wish you to understand you are much much loved whatever the circumstances.

"We are deeply concerned for your and your baby's welfare."

The 35-year-old was earlier revealed to have been the granddaughter of Mary Anna Marten, a British Museum trustee whose godmother was the late Queen Mother, Independent reported.
