A nursery worker has been arrested and charged after a mum accused her of taping her two-year-old’s mouth shut.

Ami Li, an employee at Here We Grow Daycare in Massachusetts, United States, allegedly put masking tape over a two-year-old girl’s mouth and made her sit in a “thinking chair”.

The nursery worker did this so the unnamed two-year-old would not wake up other children, who were sleeping at the time, as she was having a temper tantrum, mum Nyasia Holmes said in a Facebook post.

The nursery assistant was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment of a child and assault and battery after Nyasia filed a police report with Randolph police department.

Each charge carries a maximum sentence of 30 months in the state of Massachusetts.

Nyasia said she was furious that Amy Li, the 26-year-old who has been summoned to appear at Quincy District Court at a later date, exposed her two-year-old to “torture”, according to local media outlet Boston 25 News.

“Why did [she] think it was okay to put a 2-year-old in a thinking chair and obstruct her breathing and talking”, she added.

She claims the nursery worker admitted to taping her daughter’s mouth when she arrived to pick up her child, adding that another staff member at Here We Grow witnessed the alleged incident.

She said she arranged a meeting with the director of the daycare and Amy Li the day after she reported it to the police, adding she wants to know why the daycare itself did not report the incident to the police.

Nyasia said she doesn’t believe the incident involving her child was the first.

“It’s not okay. [She’s] not getting away with it. I will get justice for my child,” she said.
