A model was left with horrific injuries after being mauled by a leopard during a photoshoot that went horribly wrong.

Jessica Leidolph, 36, decided to enter the big cats’ enclosure at a retirement home for animals in the city of Nebra, Germany, on August 24.

Troja, a 16-year-old leopard, suddenly lashed out and bit her cheek, ear and head.

Jessica lost consciousness and was airlifted to hospital.

The model underwent surgery and was left with permanent scarring.

Troja and another leopard living in the enclosure named Paris, 18, had once graced TV screens in an advert for Panasonic, before they were moved to the retirement home in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt.

After false reports that the predator had escaped and was on the loose, Burgenland District spokesperson Steven Muller-Uhrig said: “The animal never broke out. There is currently no danger to the population.”

The police are investigating who else was present at the photoshoot and what safety precautions were taken.

A Burgenlandkreis district spokesperson revealed that keeping leopards does not require a permit in Saxony-Anhalt and said: “It is not legally limited by the state.

However, owner Birgit Stache, 48, who has worked as an animal trainer for 20 years and holds a legal license to keep the animals, is currently being investigated for negligent bodily harm along with other people responsible for the animals on the farm.

The authorities are considering taking away Stache's license for the retirement home for show animals.

Approximately 135 animals reside in the facility, which were mostly booked for photoshoots by interested individuals and companies.

Earlier this week, an Instagram model was pronounced dead in hospital after being shot in the face as she left hospital.

Raila Sales Ferreira, 20, passed away in hospital on Monday, August 23, after being targeted in the city of Manaus, Brazil.

The unidentified assailant shot her just moments after she got into a taxi five days earlier.

Disturbing photos show the vehicle’s window completely shattered.

Emergency services raced to the scene and found the model was still alive, despite her horrific injuries.

She was taken to the intensive care unit of the Joao Lucio Hospital and Emergency Room, where she spent five days fighting for her life before succumbing to her injuries.
