Ex-Pornhub star Mia Khalifa has joined Rihanna in throwing her support behind protesting Indian farmers.

The busty babe is among the celebrities backing the striking agricultural workers. They are protesting in the huge country's vast capital New Delhi over new agricultural laws they say will destroy their livelihoods.

Mia wrote on Instagram: "India has cut internet around New Delhi amidst a farmers protest, what the f*** is going on?"

She added on Twitter: "Paid actors, huh? Quite the casting director, I hope they're not overlooked during awards season. I stand with the farmers. #FarmersProtest."

This came as pop superstar Rhianna, 32, told her 101 million Twitter followers: "Why aren't we talking about this?! #FarmersProtest."

Internet access was blocked in several districts of New Delhi as farmers clashed with police. India's Ministry of Home Affairs said the move was "in the interest of maintaining public safety and averting public emergency".

Tens of thousands of farmers have been living in makeshift campsites on the outskirts of New Delhi for several months and say they will remain in place until the new laws are repealed.

Demonstrators say the new laws around the sale, pricing and storage of produce will turn agriculture corporate, and make them vulnerable to exploitation by private companies.

India's Ministry of External Affairs has criticised celebrities wading into the debate, with famous environmental activist Greta Thunberg also having her say.

The ministry said: "The temptation of sensationalist social media hashtags and comments, especially when resorted to by celebrities and others, is neither accurate nor responsible."

The statement added that a "very small section of farmers in parts of India have some reservations about these reforms".
