    A crazed bloke was arrested after he allegedly detonated a hand grenade outside an apartment building before launching a knife attack at the victims of the blast.

    The attack took place in the Reinickendorf neighbourhood of Germany's capital Berlin last night, March 24, with two women, aged 42 and 48, and a 61-year-old man left injured.

    Reports in Germany state that the man, who is allegedly Serbian, was trying to kill his ex and her new partner, who is reportedly Bosnian.

    German police said that the 61-year-old attacker detonated the grenade at the entrance to the building before he is then alleged to have run at two of the victims and attacked and wounded them with a knife.

    The Mirror reported that the 61-year-old victim is suffering from life-threatening injuries, citing a police statement.

    The attacker then fled the scene and police detained the suspect in a nearby garden.

    Police are still investigating possible motives and say It is unclear if the suspect and victims knew each other.

    While police did not release details on the attacker or victims' identities, German news agency dpa (German Press Agency) reported that the alleged attacker is Serbian and the two women also have Serbian nationality, while the wounded man is from Bosnia-Herzegovina.

    The newspaper BZ reported that the shooting was the result of a "relationship dispute".

    They reported that the man wanted to kill his ex and her new partner.

    "It was the maximum penalty for the 61-year-old Serb: not only had his wife been stolen from a man of the same age – the rival is also a Bosnian," BZ reported.

    "I've never heard a bang like that, it wasn't normal. We hid ourselves,” a neighbour said after the blast.

    The news comes just a couple of weeks after six people were killed and several others seriously injured at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in the suburb of Alsterdorf, Hamburg.

    German police later said they had found a body in the search for a gunman responsible for the mass shooting at a Jehovah’s Witness centre.
