Two juveniles are wanted as suspects in a Lakewood apartment fire that killed a mother and her daughter.

“It appears that the fire was intentionally set, and a full homicide investigation is underway,” Lakewood police said in a Tuesday afternoon news release.

The fire broke out at about 4:15 a.m. on Monday at the Tiffany Square Apartments, 935 Sheridan Blvd., according to police. Kathleen Payton, 31, and her 10-year-old daughter, Jazmine Payton-Aguayo, died in the fire.

“Detectives with the Lakewood Police Department have obtained warrants for two male juveniles who are wanted for setting the fire that killed Payton and Payton-Aguayo,” the release said.

The warrants are for first-degree murder and first-degree arson. The juvenile suspects were not named Tuesday because of their ages.

In all, 10 people were injured in the fire, police said. Seven victims were treated and released, including a firefighter who was treated for smoke inhalation. Three victims were taken to the hospital.

At least 14 apartments sustained fire damage, with all residents of the 32-unit building being displaced.
