Kate Middleton's birthday message to Prince Harry has been mocked after royal fans claimed they had spotted a telling link behind the photo.

The Duchess of Cambridge wished her brother-in-law a happy 36th birthday on Tuesday as she dug out a throwback picture of the pair of them engaged in a race with Prince William.

In the photo, the married pair are trailing Prince Harry at a public event the trio attended at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in 2017.

But some fans think the seemingly innocent snap may have a hidden meaning.

They think it is a nod to Harry leaving the Royal Family after he moved to the US with wife Meghan Markle earlier this year.

One wrote: "I think it's hysterical that they chose one of Harry running away with William and Kate in hot pursuit.

"That could not have been an accident."

Another wrote: "Running away from your royal duties like…"

A third added: "Stop running Harry. Come home."

Other royal nuts criticised the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both 38, for not including Meghan, 39, in the photo.

However royals rarely include the birthday boy or girl's other half in their celebration snap.

The photo the couple shared to wish Meghan a happy birthday earlier this year didn't show Harry, and the same goes for the pictures picked by the Queen for both occasions.

The snap was taken at a Heads Together event which the trio set up.

It saw people taking part in the London Marathon to raise cash for the cause do some last minute training.

Other royals also shared birthday messages for Harry, who spent his special day in the US after quitting the Royal Family to move Stateside with wife Meghan and 16-month-old son Archie.
