A hero dad pulled his daughter and her dog out of scalding thermal spring water in a dramatic rescue.
Laiha Slayton, 20, remains in hospital with third and second degree burns covering almost every inch of her body after trying to save her pet.
The devoted dog owner's dad took the puppy to see a vet before getting help himself on Tuesday.
Rusty the Shih Tzu did not pull through after 'screaming for its life' in the 90C water but by doctors are confident Laiha and her father Woodrow, 48, will recover from their injuries.
Laiha's sister, Kami wrote on Instagram: "People don’t live in this situation. It’s a miracle. Dad acted on instinct, adrenaline, and saved her life."
The dad and daughter from Tacoma, Washington, were walking at Maiden's Grave Hot Spring in Yellowstone where Rusty fell into the excruciatingly painful water in a panic.
The eight seconds Laiha spent attempting to retrieve Rusty before Woodrow dragged her to safety, left her with burns to 90% of her body.
The burns would have almost definitely been fatal had her father not bravely taken her out of the hot water after eight seconds of agony, MailOnline reports.
Kami said: "He heard the puppy screaming for its life with every bit of air it had in its lungs- then watched his daughter nearly kill herself to save her dog, then injured himself while rescuing her.
"It goes unsaid- all parents would have done the same thing. Not every parent experiences that traumatic situation. He watched his daughter almost die."
Despite suffering burns to his foot, Woodrow wasted no time in getting behind the wheel to drive Laiha to West Yellowstone, Montana for help.
An air ambulance flew her to the burn unit at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls while Woodrow went on to take Rusty to the vets.
Kami continued in her Instagram post: "He couldn’t go in that helicopter with her…the gut wrenching feeling of having to watch your daughter fly off, uncertain of if she is going to live or not.

"He experienced that torture for hours while driving with an injured foot. He went to the vet before he could go to the hospital, he knows how close Laiha holds those damn dogs to her heart, and he wasn’t able to see her because of all the work they were doing to her."
Sadly the dog later died as Laiha was placed in a medically induced coma and will have damaged tissue removed over the next two weeks.
Kami added: "And when Rusty passed away, knowing that Laiha made this sacrifice and is walking out empty handed really has broken his heart, and she doesn’t even know yet. He’s holding that to his heart every day and that’s hard."
She said on Thursday that Laiha is in a stable condition and their dad has only blisters on his foot after receiving medical treatment.
