A talented 21-year-old college football player in Ohio was killed after she drowned at a lake.

According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Ally Sidloski was at East Fork State Park in Clermont County when she was handing onto a swimming platform of a boat before she vanished underwater without appearing again.

Ally, who attended the University of Cincinnati, was in her second year of studying and was a key player for the colleges's Bearcats.

The tragedy happened on Saturday, May 22 and authorities recovered her body around 1am on Sunday – it is understood that she was not wearing a life jacket at the time, reports Fox News.

The popular student from Strongsville, who excelled academically, had recently completed her second season for the Cincinnati Bearcats after the previous season suffering from an injury that ruled her out.

In a heartfelt Instagram post Ally's sister Coley described her as the "light in so many people's lives" and that " heaven gained the most beautiful angel through" her death.

In the post to her sister, who she affectionately calls AllyCat, Coley wrote: "To my best friend, I never imagined myself saying goodbye so quickly. I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that your gone.

"You are the light in so many peoples lives. You are my best friend and sister in one. My heart aches to even think about you not coming home tonight.
