The parents of a 12-year-old schoolgirl from Manchester have spoken out about how astounded they are that a test revealed their daughter has an IQ higher than Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein.

Anwita Patil took an IQ test at Mensa at just 11-years-old and managed to score the highest possible score for her age category of 162, her amazed dad Jay toldManchester Evening News.

Her proud parents said: “When we found out, [we] thought ‘you must be joking?’

“We expected her to get the membership but were absolutely astounded when we received the email confirmation of her maximum test score. Anwita is over the moon about this and made us extremely proud of her achievements."

Her amazing score placed her higher than the results of both Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking, who are both believed to have had IQs of around 160.

Anwita has now been accepted into Mensa, the world’s largest and oldest high-IQ society, where she’ll be able to meet equally gifted people.

While Anwita appears to have a bit of an academic pedigree, with her dad working as an NHS consultant her mum working as a mathematician, her parents said they were always shocked by her natural intelligence

Anwita and her mum, Anu, used to spend a lot of time doing maths problems together. But soon, Anu realised that her daughter would start beating her to the right answers.

“Right from primary school onwards, Anwita would be coming up with a few ways of solving problems that my wife doesn’t know. We thought there had to be something else going on here,” Jay said.

“We used to do maths challenges together, but sometimes I didn’t get the answer and (Anwita) would. She thinks completely differently, and this is for things that aren’t taught in school,” Anu added.

Her parents said the year 7 pupil hopes she’ll be able to solve “societal challenges” with her unique gifts in the future.
