A pensioner who said she “didn’t give a sod” about Tier 3 lockdown restrictions imposed in her hometown has said she had Covid-19 symptoms but “didn’t follow the rules.”

Maureen, 83, from Barnsley, discussed her attitude towards coronavirus guidelines on Friday's This Morning after she became a viral hit.

According to the Mirror Online, She told Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary the government have “got it wrong” and claimed she had coronavirus symptoms but “got up and lived.”

The pensioner, who has hit headlines in recent days, told the This Morning hosts the government should take care of the “old” and “vulnerable” and let everyone else “take care of themselves.”

Maureen then admitted she had been struck down by the disease earlier this year, and suffered many of the common symptoms.

She said: "I had symptoms – a dry cough, pain in my lungs, tired, bleary eyes, terrible headaches.

"I took paracetamol. Did my yoga and deep breathing and walking and within 10 days I was alright," claimed Maureen.

"I might be old but I know how to get up and I know how to live."

The 83-year-old said the UK’s population should "just be careful" and said she hadn’t been in "lockdown at all."

Maureen said she abides by social-distancing requirements, making sure she’s in places that have been "careful."

She said: "I go out and if I go in a coffee shop I sit the legal distance. In a restaurant I sit at a legal distance.

"In the places I've been I ask if they've had the virus and they so no because they've been careful."

It comes as a second-wave of the virus grips the nation, with several regions under Tier 3 go the government’s coronavirus-fighting plan.

Maureen initially hit headlines earlier this week as she explained her concerns for the country and her town.

She warned the young would be paying for the restrictions in the long-run, and added that it wouldn’t be her because she’d be dead.

Speaking to BBC News, she said: "I think it's all ridiculous, we should never have been in lockdown. All the people who were vulnerable should have been helped and kept home safe.

"And all the rest of us, I'm 83, I don't give a sod.

“I look at it this way, I've not got all that many years left of me and I'm not going to be fastened in a house when the government have got it all wrong.

"We need…how can we get the country on its feet? Money-wise? Where's all the money?

"By the end of this year there's going to be millions of people unemployed and you know who's going to pay for it? All the young ones. Not me because I'm going to be dead."
