A councillor is set to face a standards hearing after blasting a Facebook group as "a**holes" that wanted to set up a "flag-shagging orgy" in the town centre.

Her comments come as said group were expecting and wanting a large celebration for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee earlier this year.

The fury from councillor Yvonne Tennant of Nelson Town Council was posted straight to social media, where the councillor blasted the "flag-shagging" band of Royal Family fans, LancashireLive reported.

The Peddle-based councillor's raging comments are set to appear before a standards hearing next Tuesday, November 8, over the comments which are alleged to have rose over planned Jubilee celebrations.

Comments and criticism from the councillor arose when a Facebook group is alleged to have criticised the town's jubilee celebrations, which some labelled as simply not enough.

Some critics are even claiming no event was held at all, with no buntings or flag showcased in the town centre.

Despite that, councillor Tennant writes that there was, in fact, bunting hung up in the centre of town, but that was not enough to placate the so-called "flag-shagging orgy".

The councillor added that some of the responses she received to the thread of comments were "vile" and "racist" as well as "wild allegations" about "councillors pocketing tax-payers money".

Tennant has denied being unprofessional, insulting or unprofessional and added that one of the complaints was allegedly from a political opponent, fellow councillor Neil McGowan.

Despite some milder comments, an investigation found that "the pigeon and chessboard meme (image) and the phrases 'stupid people', 'arseholes' and 'flag shagging' are offensive and disrespectful, and amount to a breach."

The said breach was reported by some disgruntled "flag-shagging" members of the public, with one writing: "I can assure you there is much anger amongst my group members and elsewhere due to the total disrespect shown by Yvonne in her position representing the council."

Another moaned: "The words used in her posts are totally repugnant and cast a dark shadow not just over Nelson Town Council but the borough council as well. I hope this complaint is investigated properly and thoroughly."
