A man dubbed the Brazilian "Tinder Swindler" has been caught by cops after he used a sob story to dupe 7 women.

Renan Augusto Gomes, 36, pulled on his victims heart strings by telling them that he was an orphan before scamming them out of thousands of pounds.

The charming trickster was arrested on Wednesday ( September 21 ) after he was accused of targeting high-earning professionals.

Shocking footage shows him trying to evade police before he crashed into three other vehicles in the São Paulo municipality of São Bernardo do Campo.

Seven women told cops that he had persuaded them to let him borrow large sums of money – with one victim claiming that he took £35,000 from her.

An investigation found that Renan was using several profiles across dating apps including Tinder, Happn and Lovoo under the alias Augusto Keller.

He has been highly wanted by the police since last year, reports G1.

Renan posed as a civil engineer and claimed his parents were Germans who tragically died in a car accident in Aracatuba.

His victims were all aged between 34-40 and introduced him to their families, reports The Sun.

The scammer would then ask if they could lend him money due to financial difficulties before disappearing.

Renan was eventually caught following an operation by Police and the Public Ministry.

Prosecutor Erika Pucci da Costa Leal commented: "Augusto presents himself as an affectionate, attentive man, with stories of the absence of a close family or a heavy workload to prevent the victim from being included in his social circle."

His Tinder bio states: "I've been single for a year. I joined the app looking for a serious relationship, if you're looking for sex or fun, please skip my profile."

Police believe there are further victims who are yet to come forward.
