The US has come under fire after reporters pointed out the rules for fully vaccinated travellers entering America by air is much stricter than those entering illegally by land. Refugee camps have been set up across the Texan southern border with fears they could become breeding grounds for Covid or huge security risks. But when Jen Psaki was grilled on the strange standards, she bizarrely stated they would not be there for long so did not require vaccine or regular testing to be enforced.

Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy attended the White House briefing and wanted to know whether migrants entering the US by land, specifically over the Texas border, are subject to vaccine screenings.

The US opened up air travel to those who are fully vaccinated with foreign travellers able to enter the country from November.

But Mr Doocy wanted to know if migrants entering the US are subject to the same rules.

Tens of thousands of migrants, mainly from Haiti, have made the journey to the American southern border and have set up camps across the boundaries.

Mr Doocy asked: “Is somebody asking the foreign nationals who are walking into Del Rio, Texas and setting up camps on this side of the border for proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test?”

Ms Psaki stuttered as she tried to fall back on her notes to answer the question.

Mr Doocy pressed on with Ms Psaki replying: “As individuals come across border they are both assessed for whether they have any symptoms and if they have symptoms the intention is for them to be quarantined…

“They are not intending to stay here for a lengthy period of time, I don’t think it’s the same thing.”

Viewers mocked Ms Psaki’s assessment and highlighted that many were only in restaurants and other venues for a short period of time yet could still spread COVID-19.

Ms Psaki and Mr Doocy are known to clash during White House briefings with one of the more recent confrontations focused on whether or not President Joe Biden has “abandoned” people in Afghanistan through his withdrawal.

Migrants have moved into a processing bottleneck in Del Rio, Texas as many wait to see if their asylum applications are approved.

But the vast crowds have forced over 12,000 migrants setting up camps under bridges and along the border as they wait for their applications.

Haitian migrants have been making movements towards the US over the past few years since the devastating earthquake in 2010.

However, in recent months the number of migrants have skyrocketed with border officials having stopped over 1,323,500 illegal immigrants so far this year.

The White House has been using the CDC’s Title 42 order which allows America to deport migrants or reject immigration on the ground of public health and COVID-19.

However, US District Judge Emmet Sullivan blocked the Trump-era order meaning America can no longer use it to export migrants.
