A small village in Kent has made it onto the list of one of the best places to live in the UK – and it’s not hard to see why.

Ickham in Kent has it all when it comes to aesthetics – from an array of gorgeous thatched cottages to a fascinating church, it’s a place no one is in a hurry to leave.

Muddy Stilettos, a ranking website, put has raved about Ickham’s desirable location – nestled just five miles from Canterbury, and equally as close to the coast of Pegwell Bay at Sandwich.

It included Ickham as one of 260 of the best places to lay down roots in the UK, and said: “On offer here are stunning walks aplenty and gastro-pub heaven for fuelling up after.”

It also has a little known spa retreat, and is a short distance away from UK famous wildlife parks, such as Port Lympne and Howletts – to name two. Even closer is Wingham Wildlife Park – a small site which has animals from monkeys to giraffes.

One of the main draws of tourists to Ickham is the Duke William pub, a highly rated establishment for food and overnight stays.

Among some of the reviews on TripAdvisor, are people praising its setting food and “attentiveness”. One reviewer said: “A beautiful Pub, great food, a fab room and truly attentive staff. Please update your photos as it is so much better in person.”

The village’s church is also said to have a “striking broach spire” which makes it quite the building to admire.

But for anyone wanting to venture to the Kent coast, the drive takes under 20 minutes to Pegwell Bay, and an extra five minutes on top of that for anyone heading to the White Cliffs of Dover.

Ickham is also rumoured to have been the tranquil location where Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie stayed in a luxury village cottage named The Treasury.

The pair are said to have sought the place to stay when filming scenes for film, World War Z.

But living there isn’t so cheap

House prices in Ickham are expensive, and around double the national average. Setting down roots for village life in Ickham could set prospective buyers back at £668,000 – which was the average price of a home in the village over the past year.

According to KentLive, prices start to creep up even more for detached properties, with an average sold price of £740,000.

For anyone looking for a fancy a flat, it’s not all that much cheaper, with an average price fetching £547,500 last year.

And what about primary schools? The nearest one to the village of Ickham is Wickhambreaux Church of England Primary School – which is officially rated as outstanding by Ofsted.
