Google Maps Street View has the ability to sneak up on people around the world when they least expect it and preserve moments in its virtual world. This is due to the nature of the Google cameras used by the tech giant, which are strapped to dedicated Google cars and workers who travel the streets of the world on foot snapping images.

Specialist 3D cameras are able to snap all angles of a scene and then stitch them together in post-production to create a world in which users can click their way around.

Often, these moments can be shocking and hilarious.

However, in one scene in Italy, viewers were left doe-eyed over one couple spotted walking through the streets.

The moment happened in Genoa, on a rustic, cobbled side street.

Two tall buildings, just metres apart, line the laneway.

The buildings are typical of the Italian landscape, painted shades of red and yellow.

In the distance, another tall building typical of Genoa architecture can be seen.

Yet, it is the moment these buildings are overlooking which has caught the attention of viewers.

A couple, who appear to be elderly, can be seen wandering up the alley.

The male appears to be somewhat stooped, dressed in a grey overcoat and matching trousers.

The female is to his right, also dressed in a grey coat and black trousers.

Arm-in-arm, the duo seem to be supporting one another as they stroll through the streets.

Sparking an air of romance, the couple were described as “wholesome” by the Reddit user who happened upon the sight.

“Wholesome old couple in Genoa, Italy,” wrote the Reddit user.

However, elsewhere in the world, other couples have been spotted in somewhat less “wholesome” situations.

In fact, one pair’s lewd behaviour on a Mexico beach led Google Maps Street View moderators to blur their entire bodies.

This was because the couple decided to strip completely naked upon spotting the camera.

Running along the beach following the Google camera, it would appear their behaviour was something of a practical joke.

However, due to Google’s strict privacy policy and rules on appropriate images the scene was banned.

“Users can refer to Google’s content policy instructions to understand what content is prohibited and restricted, such as not allowing pornography, explicit or sexually suggestive content,” a Google spokesperson previously said on the subject of explicit appearances on the Street View website.
