He returned a questionnaire to police investigating the so-called “beergate” episode last month, at which point he vowed to quit if he was issued with a fixed penalty notice for breaching coronavirus guidance. Ms Rayner, the Shadow Chancellor, who at the event too and made a similar pledge to resign if found guilty. A Labour Party spokesperson said: “Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner have always been clear that no rules were broken in Durham. The police have completed their investigation and have agreed saying that there is no case to answer.”
