Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi appeared on ITV’s Peston and was grilled over the Tory sleaze scandal which has engulfed the party. Labour put forward recommendations from the 2018 Committee on Standards in Public Life report which would put an end to MPs having second consultancy roles and force the Standards Committee to put forward a plan to implement it. But Robert Peston appeared angry and wanted to know why it has taken the Conservatives three years to introduce the measures as he accused a caught-out Mr Zahawi of “cutting and running”.
