Matthew from Bolton aimed a blunt dig at Prime Boris Johnson, claiming that the Prime Minister does not deserve credit for not putting the country into a lockdown. He instead said that the Tory backbenchers are the bona fide unsung heroes that warrant everyone’s plaudits for doing their utmost best to prevent England plunging into yet another national lockdown before the end of the year. He said they ensured “freedom” wasn’t taken way from Brits at such an exciting time of the year with plenty to celebrate.

Boltonian Matthew hinted that, had he not faced so much internal opposition, Mr Johnson may have followed the rest of the UK’s strategy by plunging England into some sort of lockdown following the rapid outbreak of COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.

But with Mr Johnson understood to already be on borrowed time as Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party he could not afford yet another further run-in with his Tories.

Matthew said: “It wasn’t Boris’s decision!

“It was the 101 MPs who prevented Boris from a lockdown.

“Let’s not give credit to Boris when he is not due the credit.

“If he is due to credit I am happy to give him the credit.

“But let’s give the credit to the MPs who stood up for freedom.”

Although he would like Mr Johnson to clear his desk, he said he does not think that Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Home Secretary Priti Patel have what it takes to follow in his footsteps, blasting the latter for her inability to tackle knife crime.

On Wednesday, four men were stabbed in London in separate double incidents in Seven Kings and Kilburn but they have reportedly not suffered any life-threatening injuries.

Matthew said: “I like Boris gone.

“He should have been gone for me months ago.

“But I don’t see anyone in the cabinet.

“What has Rishi done? What has Priti Patel done?

“We can’t even stop knife crime.”

Talking during a visit to a vaccination clinic in Milton Keynes, Mr Johnson revealed that the “overwhelming majority” of people filling up the hospitals are unboosted.

He said: “I’m sorry to say this but the overwhelming majority of people who are currently ending up in intensive care in our hospitals are people who are not boosted.

“I’ve talked to doctors who say the numbers are running up to 90% of people in intensive care who are not boosted.

“If you’re not vaccinated, you’re eight times more likely to get into hospital altogether.

“So, it’s a great thing to do.

“It’s very, very important.

“Get boosted for yourself and enjoy New Year sensibly and cautiously.”
