Express.co.uk readers voted in our poll on whether the Prime Minister should hit back at Brussels. A huge 97 percent said yes – with some suggesting EU fishermen should be refused access to Britain’s rich waters in response. Just three percent said no.
Commenting on this website, one reader fumed: “Yes we should, ban all EU fishermen from our waters, ban all french products from cheese to cars, how can you ban things that were acceptable when you’re a member but not now we’ve left, pettiness is a way of life.”
Another insisted: “Of course he should, he should ban goods of a similar value being imported into the UK by each EU country so it’s 27 times worse for the EU.
“They’ll soon understand that whatever the EU does to us we can do the same x 27!!!”
A third blasted: “They cut their nose off to spite their face.
“Yes it will affect our fishermen, but like most other industries the act of fishing creates lots of other jobs.
“Drivers, distributors, processors and not least sales, most of which is carried out in the EU, notwithstanding their own people going without the shellfish.
“They’ve shown their true colours since January 1st, just makes me pleased we’re not a part of it anymore.”
Another commented: “Tit for tat let’s ban their wine cars cheese.”
A fifth raged: “Stop ALL EU trawlers from fishing in UK waters NOW.
“The EU want access to our waters but won’t accept fish caught by UK fishermen then they are not up to the quality of fish caught by their fishermen?
“UK waters so how can the quality of the fish be not to the EU standards if they catch them within the UK territorial waters?”
One more added: “If the UK does nothing, then the EU will be encouraged to disrupt UK trade more and more. Let’s nip it in the bud!”

Our poll comes after reports that Britain could restrict the import of European mineral water and seed potatoes in retaliation to the EU’s ban on UK shellfish.
A Government source told the Telegraph: “There is thought being given to where we can leverage in other areas.
“We have continuity arrangements… we can stop these which means they won’t be able to sell their produce here.”
The European Commission sparked the row earlier this month when it announced that a ban on the export of live oysters, clams, scallops and mussels from the UK’s class B waters would become permanent because it is now listed as a third country.
Brexiteer Ann Widdecombe has called for the UK to strike back against the EU.
Speaking to talkRADIO earlier in February, the former Brexit Party MEP said: “Do we start hitting back? I think yes.
“By all means, try the diplomatic routes first, let’s be grown-ups.
“But the time may well come where we say, if you won’t have our shellfish, we won’t have your cheese.”
Express.co.uk polled 7,186 people on February 21.
