Volkswagen has received an offer of €7.5 billion for Lamborghini from Quantum Group AG, despite it not being on sale.

Volkswagen Group is said to have received an offer of €7.5 billion for Lamborghini. According to a media report, the offer comes from Quantum Group AG – a Zurich-based holding company.

Quantum Group AG is represented by Rea Stark, Co-Founder, Piech Automotive – another Zurich-based company. Piech Automotive executives include Anton Piech (son of former VW Group Chairman, Ferdinand Piech) and Matthias Muller (ex-Porsche CEO). However, their involvement in the acquisition offer is still unknown.

Reports suggest that Quantum Group AG is looking to acquire not only the Lamborghini name but also the brand’s facility at Sant’Agata, Italy and their motorsports division. The offer also includes a five-year supplier agreement with Audi, to allow Lamborghini to continue producing their current model lineup.

The proposed deal also mentions a partnership for sharing of intellectual property and electric vehicle technology. The partnership will also result in the establishment of an Advanced Automotive Innovation Centre in Germany, which will manufacture battery cells and battery packs.

According to reports, Quantum Group AG has big plans for the Italian supercar brand. The company envisions Lamborghini to spearhead innovation by consistently implementing new clean drivetrain technologies. The company will also look to develop new software and autonomous driving technologies, while also researching on ‘green’ materials, including e-fuels and hydrogen.

In addition to this, the purchase offer also includes job assurances for existing Lamborghini employees for a period of up to five years. It also states that 850 new jobs would be created at the proposed innovation centre in Germany.

However, reports have suggested that the Volkswagen Group has no plans of selling Lamborghini. The Italian supercar brand’s day-to-day operations are currently under the control of Audi and it plans to remain that way.
